From a very young age, I was naturally drawn to helping people and making a difference where I could. Growing up, I saw firsthand how families and individuals with disabilities can struggle without the right support—and that stayed with me.

FAQs
What is Specialist Support Coordination?
Specialist Support Coordination (often called Level 3) is a higher level of Support Coordination. It focuses on reducing complexity in a person’s support environment and helping them work through immediate or significant barriers to using their NDIS plan.
Who is Level 3 Specialist Support Coordination for?
It’s generally for people whose situation is more complex and where standard coordination may not be enough, for example when there are high risks, frequent crises, or multiple systems involved. The aim is to help stabilise supports and make plan implementation possible and safer.
What is the difference between Level 2 and Level 3 Support Coordination?
Level 2 (Support Coordination) is focused on coordinating supports and building your capacity to use your plan.
Level 3 (Specialist Support Coordination) is higher intensity and is used when there are significant barriers or risks and more specialist involvement is needed to reduce complexity and keep supports on track.
What does a Specialist Support Coordinator actually do?
Depending on your needs, a Specialist Support Coordinator may:
- help address complex barriers that stop supports working coordinate across multiple providers and systems
- support planning for safety, risk, and stability
- design a service approach that fits your situation (where appropriate)
- report and communicate with the NDIA when needed
- The focus is on making your plan workable when things are complex.
How do I know if my plan includes Specialist Support Coordination?
You can check your NDIS plan budget for Support Coordination. If Level 3 is included, it may be listed as “Specialist Support Coordination” (or “Support Coordination Level 3”) in your Capacity Building supports. If you can’t tell from the wording, a plan manager or coordinator can help interpret it with you.
Can I have Level 2 and Level 3 Support Coordination in the same plan?
Sometimes, yes. A plan can include different types (levels) of Support Coordination, depending on what the NDIA has funded and what the person needs at different points in time.
What is the line item for Specialist Support Coordination (Level 3)?
The Specialist Support Coordination (Level 3) line item is commonly listed as:
07_004_0132_8_3 – Support Coordination Level 3: Specialist Support Coordination.
What if I’m not in crisis, but things are still complex?
You don’t need to wait until things fall apart to ask for help. If there are major barriers (like unstable supports, housing pressure, safety concerns, or multiple systems that don’t work well together), Specialist Support Coordination may help bring more structure and stability.
