The type of nursing support provided will depend on the person's assessed needs, clinical
circumstances, funding arrangements and whether the support is appropriately provided
within the NDIS or another part of the healthcare system.
What are disability-related health supports?
Disability-related health supports are supports that help a person manage a health need where that support relates to their disability and meets the requirements for an NDIS support.
Depending on individual circumstances, the NDIS may fund supports delivered by a nurse or other appropriately qualified professional, as well as expert training for the people providing everyday support.
Disability-related health supports can include areas such as continence, diabetes management, dysphagia, nutrition, wound and pressure care, respiratory support, seizure management and appropriately delivered training.
Not every healthcare service is an NDIS support. Diagnosis, treatment of general health conditions, hospital services and other healthcare remain the responsibility of the health system where applicable. Our team can help clarify the clinical support required and document the person's assessed needs.
FAQs
Does the NDIS fund nursing?
The NDIS may fund nursing or other disability-related health supports where the support meets NDIS funding requirements and relates to the participant's disability. Some healthcare remains the responsibility of the Australian health system. Funding decisions are made by the NDIA.
Can an NDIS nurse visit me at home?
Where appropriate and available, community nursing can be delivered in the person's home or another suitable community environment. Whether this is appropriate will depend on the service required and the person's clinical circumstances.
Can Chosen Family provide an NDIS nursing assessment?
Yes. Our Registered Nurses can complete comprehensive clinical assessments and prepare relevant clinical documentation according to the purpose of the referral and the participant's assessed needs.
Do you provide nursing for SIL participants?
Yes. Our nurses can work alongside participants and SIL teams where nursing assessment, care planning, High Intensity support planning, clinical training, competency assessment or ongoing clinical oversight is required.
Can you train our support workers?
Yes. We can provide participant-specific clinical training where appropriate. Training can be supported by competency assessment when workers need to demonstrate that they can safely implement a participant's individual clinical procedure.

No.
